I had such a great time photographing Kathy and Mark’s wedding about a week ago at The Pavilion on Crystal Lake in Middletown, Connecticut. So much so, that I couldn’t wait to share this beautiful portrait of the two of them on their wedding day! I’ll be sharing more of their wedding photos (along with wonderful details about these two!) on the blog later this week!
Alissa and Michael were married April 9th, 2011 at the beautiful Ocean House in Watch Hill on a perfect early spring day. They decided on a destination wedding in Rhode Island and an escape to paradise (Aruba!) to celebrate their honeymoon. These two are accustomed to travel, as Michael first proposed holding a sign welcoming Alissa in an airport which read “Will you marry me?” They had the sign framed and hanging proudly on display at their reception. I love that they are preserving this romantic gesture and I can imagine them finding the perfect wall space to hang it in their home. Alissa and Michael’s wedding day was one filled with warm moments of laughter and tears shared with close family and friends (and as a family tradition even their sweet dog Benny joined momentarily!). I loved Alissa’s choices of white, purple and orange wedding details and loved photographing their stunning florals done by Joyce at Stoneblossom. I had such a wonderful time spending the day with them both and their very welcoming family. Congratulations again Alissa and Michael!

Every year, I dedicate an “education budget” towards a few key areas to expand my learning and improve my business. One of those areas this year is Lighting. While I am comfortable with photographing natural light, as well as manipulating light, there is always room to learn new techniques. Last week I attended the Rock Your Reception II Lighting Workshop offered by ShootStyle. An intimate group of 20 photographers joined together in Worcester to talk, learn, and play with light; led by instructors (and fantastic photographers): Andree Kehn, Earl Christie, Jamie Wexler, Michelle Turner, Stacey Doyle and Zofia Photo (with Mark Crosby also documenting the event and assisting). We covered everything from on-camera flash, bounce-flash, off-camera flash, using sync cords, various speedlights, pocket wizards and radio triggers, and even a “light on a stick” technique and alienbee studio lighting. You name it, we covered it. It was a great refresher for me of some techniques, and an interesting new twist seeing how others approach light in different ways.
Above is a favorite photo I created of Stacey Doyle while she talked about off-camera back-lighting techniques; a great way to create drama to an image! I’ll be sharing some of my own personal Tips & Tricks regarding Lighting in the coming weeks.

Lauren & Rob were married at Portsmouth Elks Lodge on a day that couldn’t have been more perfect for an outdoor ceremony on the marsh. The view was incredible; such an intimate and picturesque place. I wasn’t surprised that they picked such a beautiful location, since Rob works in the arts industry and they both have excellent aesthetic taste (in my opinion!) and Lauren grew up in that area. Such a laidback and sweet couple, Lauren & Rob were referred to me by a mutual friend Rob used to work with. The day after their wedding, I received the *sweetest* email from them that I wanted to share:
“Rob and I wanted to thank you for being an absolute joy to work with! We loved your style and ideas and had MANY guests comment on how sweet you were and also how unobtrusive you were. Thank you, thank you, thank you for being there and doing such a great job! You made our day even more wonderful!” Thank you for asking me to be a part of your day, Lauren & Rob! I had such a blast spending the day with you both, and capturing all of the sweet (and crazy dancing moments) between you, your friends and family. Congratulations again!

Krista & Erick were married in Warwick, RI at a Victorian mansion built in the late 1800′s. I was so excited about this image, that I couldn’t wait to share it with their “teaser” post coming next week. I captured this shot of Krista & Erick as they were walking through the staircase near the (questionably haunted) servant quarters of this beautiful, aged home. There are so many intricate details and layered history in this home (now museum), and Krista & Erick were so excited to share their ceremony in this special place (as I would be as well!). More amazing images coming soon from their wedding and very fun party afterward. Congratulations Krista & Erick! It was so great spending the day with you and your family, and sharing in your very unique wedding celebration!
With the recent light sprinkling of rain during Ellen & Dave’s wedding earlier this month, I caught myself reminiscing about another fantastic couple I worked with last year. Cheryl & Dave had an intimate Cape Cod wedding August 28th – so intimate in fact, that I photographed their wedding day as one of only seven guests. Their wedding day was one filled with a lot of strong emotions and beautiful, unique details; however, one detail that always comes to my mind had to do with the weather. Cheryl & Dave were not only madly in love, but they were fearless, as their beach wedding ceremony was held literally minutes before the beach was being closed off due to weather warnings of hurricane Danny sweeping through MA. Chatham’s news channel, NECN, was actually at the beach covering the story of hurricane Danny and video recorded part of Cheryl & Dave’s beach ceremony and interviewed them afterward.
Can you say creative way to receive a videographer pro-bono on your wedding day?! Check out the news coverage of hurricane Danny and a cameo of Cheryl & Dave’s wedding at the link below:
Dave was so excited about the news coverage, that he sent me an email after the wedding including the link covering the story of hurricane Danny *and* their wedding! What a great story to share with friends and family! Everyone who shared in their day spent the weekend relaxing at The Captain’s House Inn (known as one of the oldest and highest regarded bed and breakfasts on the Cape), and following the ceremony enjoyed an amazing dinner at the Wequassett Resort and Golf Club (with a breathtaking waterfront view and to die for cuisine!). Cheryl & Dave are both doing well; happily in love and still living in Lowell, MA. I truly love photographing intimate weddings, and it’s nice keeping in touch with the couples I work with. Dave actually signed up and attended several digital Photography workshops I taught through the Belmont Media Center earlier this year. I believe the photography bug has bitten him as well! :)
I’ve heard people say it’s good luck when it rains on your wedding day; I think the little bit of rain during Ellen & Dave’s wedding on June 12th made for fun, unique pictures! Ellen & Dave had an intimate Catholic ceremony at St Thomas Parish in Peabody, MA followed by a very lively and dance-filled reception with some traditional Portuguese music at the Danversport Yacht Club. So fun! Their beautiful baby girl, Sofia, was their flower girl. She not only was a doll, but hammed it up to the camera (more pics coming soon!), and danced the night away during their party with friends and family. Sofia, in my opinion, brings more good luck than any couple could ever need. Congratulations again, Ellen & Dave! It was a blast spending the day with you both. Check back next week to see a Signature Collection highlighting their whole day!
